Irwin Miller's Cummins Diesel factory town of Columbus, Indiana was filled by Miller with many works designed by the world's most admired architects. When one of those architects, a Korean, returning to lecture there, has a seizure which is expected to be terminal, which brings his family to Columbus. A young woman who works in the public library, which is next door to the old Irwin family home which has turned into a b&b, meets the son of the architect. The woman and the young man become friends as she takes him on a tour of Columbus's architecture. She longs to go off to school to study architecture, but feels bound by her circumstances to stay here. In contrast the young man, his father's heir if he wants it, wants none of it, and resents the family duty to attend upon his father's death. The girl desperately desires what the boy would throw away. It's a pretty good introduction to the architectural feast of Columbus..
